Innocence

Innocence, by Dean Koontz

Addison Goodheart has a face that repels anyone who sees it and compels them to violence. Gwyneth cannot abide to be touched and avoids human contact. When they chance to meet in the library after hours, a friendship ensues that changes their lives.

This was a fairly good read, but sometimes it seemed like it was a little wordy and had a hard time getting to the point. I'm not quite sure what genre you would put this book, horror story? Mystery? Dystopian? It's probably a little of each.

Hadley-Hadley Benson

This is a great quick read! 16 year old Jaxon is getting new neighbors and does not want to get trapped into helping them move in, that is, until he gets a glimpse of their daughter. He decides he can give up a part of his Saturday to help out. As he is carrying in a huge box he his blocked by one of the boys, who will not move. This is a touching story that delves into the world of autism and the affect it has on their families and those around them.

Orphan Train

Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline

Vivian Daly is a 91 year old wealthy widow that has an unbelievable past. Molly Ayer is a 17 year old foster child that has been bounced around in the system for years. When Molly gets into a little bit of trouble, she is required to to do some community service and through her boyfriends mother, ends up helping the widow Daly clean out her attic. As they begin the journey of going through the boxes, they find out they have more in common than either one of them could have imagined.

Orphan trains are a fascinating part of America's history that is not well known and yet, changed the lives of so many orphans during the early years of our country. This story sheds light on the history of these trains and tells a story that is tragic and yet common.

The Silver Star

Twelve year old "Bean" Holladay and her fifteen year old sister, Liz, live in a small town in Southern California with their mom,Charlotte. When Bean was just a baby, Charlotte, with her two small girls in tow, left her small home home town in Virginia trying to make a name for herself in the world of music. Charlotte leaves town for a couple of months to 'find herself' and leaves enough money for the girls to get by. While she's gone, the cops start poking around and the girls decide they need to take a bus to Virginia and visit their Uncle Tinsley, who lives in the decaying mansion that their mother grew up in.

In Virginia, they find a world they never knew existed and discover things about themselves and their family that their mother had never told them. Just as the girls are finding a way to fit into this small town that hasn't changed since their mother lived there, something happens to Liz that changes their course forever.

This is a well written book that explores the abuse of adult power and how the human spirit is strong and can overcome the tragedies that we sometimes have to endure.
