The Escape Artists: A Band of Daredevil Pilots and the Greatest Prison Break of the Great War

The Escape Artists: A Band of Daredevil Pilots and the Greatest Prison Break of the Great War
by Neal Bascomb

This was an interesting read even though the lead up to the Holzminden escape was a bit long and cumbersome. The author tells the story of many, many escape attempts by various prisoners from different POW camps, so it gets a little confusing. When the book finally arrives to the story of the the Holzminden escape, it was a well-told and amazing story.

Along the way, we learn how differently the enlisted soldier was treated compared to the officers. Even though this was a POW camp and no one was treated well, there were many privileges afforded to the officers that enabled them to attempt escape over and over again.

Grateful:the transformative power of giving thanks

I meant to read this before Thanksgiving but ended up finishing it after Christmas. It was a great way to start off the New Year. Grateful: the transformative power of giving thanks offered a new perspective on the combined efforts of individuals to live in thanks. It also highlighted the difference living with gratitude does and can make on society as a whole.

Nine Perfect Strangers

Nine Perfect Strangers
By Liane Moriarty

I have read all of her books and was so excited to see she had a new one, because I have loved them all. Liane Moriarty is so great at delving into character's minds. I loved this one just as much.
Nine people sign up for a health resort retreat that they have been promised will transform them and they will not be the same when they leave.

Frances-  Romance author-  victim of a romance con/scam

Lars- Divorce lawyer, helps scorned women

Tony- Famous Former sports star

Napoleon, Heather, and Zoe- Family dealing with an unspeakable tragedy and trying to deal with the aftermath

Caramel- Recently divorced, mother of 4 young girls, dealing with body image

Ben and Jessica – Young couple, recently won the lottery

The players arrive at the resort and we are told a little bit of background about each, they find it's a little different then expected. The guests are asked to not speak for a few days, given special smoothies to drink, and then when they are finally allowed to start talking again something really strange happens. This started out a little slow for me, and I wasn't sure I would enjoy it as much but then, bam! something so out of the blue happens, it just gets so good, I couldn't stop turning the pages. Each character has problems they are trying to deal with and are forced to confront at this resort. You feel for ever single one of these people and want to them to be happy. Life is hard and people are so so weird and complex, and Liane is at the top of her game writing what she does best.

Shelved in Adult Fiction-  Just like all of her books has some brief language, talk of sex, (nothing graphic)
Pyscological Thriller

In Pieces by Sally Field

In Pieces by Sally Field

One of the most celebrated, beloved, and enduring actors of our time, Sally Field has an infectious charm that has captivated the nation for more than five decades, beginning with her first TV role at the age of seventeen. (Goodreads)

Sally Field is one of the most vivacious and well known actors of our time. This memoir gives the reader a look into her childhood and early career beginning with her role as Gidget and then Sister Bertrille in The Flying Nun. Because her childhood was difficult and complicated, and she was a survivor of abuse, the memoir can be hard to read at times. But, for anyone who is interested in the "behind the scenes" of the entertainment industry, this book delivers all the highs and lows of Sally Field's career, as well as her complicated relationships with her family and the men in her life.

This book can be found in the non-fiction section of library, as well as on Overdrive both as an e-book and e-audiobook.
